The Wise Woman: Movie Synopsis

Life for many is a mixture of sweet and sour; some were down yesterday and up today, yet same persons might fall another day and, if possible, still rise again after a while.

Cases of individuals and families who were living comfortably some years back, but now in excruciating poverty are scattered all around Nigeria’s major cities. We also know some who suffered all kinds of embarrassing situations in the past due to lack of money, but are at the top of their game today, and living luxury lifestyles that remains a mere wish for the lager population.

Residing with his virtuous wife and two young daughters in a 3 bedroom flat in a Lagos suburb is Uncle Frank, a graduate of Petro Chemical Engineering and senior engineer in an NNPC subsidiary, believed to be just another bureaucracy created by the federal government.

Uncle Frank’s new job pays him a fat salary every month, with other robust allowances from time to time. His two daughters are in JSS 1 and 3, living in one of the top boarding schools. His wife is mostly at home, a housewife by choice. Since getting his new well paying job, he’s always looking for opportunity to give her special treats and take her on vacations to international travel destinations, but she often decline the offer to his surprise.

Why is she rejecting the good life? Uncle Frank’s wife, Kindness, wants him to save enough money and work with her as his wife to set up some local businesses first before she would believe they are truly rich. He doesn’t see her excuse as a good reason for them not to live large like his other colleagues in the Oil and Gas sector, and even wondered why his wife will be interested in local businesses when she could be talking about importation of designer wears from top brands and open a flashy boutique. After all he has a secured and well paying government job.

But his wife insists, saying she doesn’t want them to start enjoying with just one source of income because anything could happen to his job. He didn’t take her words seriously, but what follows in a space of just 16 months leaves Uncle Frank in tears.
